Level II Network Engineer
Job Title: Level 2 Network Engineer
Summary:
Key Responsibilities:
- Network
Monitoring and Maintenance:
- Monitor
network performance and ensure optimal operation.
- Perform
routine maintenance tasks such as firmware upgrades, patch management,
and system backups.
- Proactively
identify and resolve network bottlenecks and performance issues.
- Incident
Response and Troubleshooting:
- Serve
as the escalation point for Level 1 support technicians for complex
network issues.
- Investigate
and troubleshoot network outages and connectivity problems promptly.
- Coordinate
with vendors and other technical teams to resolve issues that require
external support.
- Network
Security:
- Implement
and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and
intrusion detection systems.
- Conduct
regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to ensure
compliance with security policies and industry standards.
- Respond
to security incidents and mitigate potential threats effectively.
- Network
Design and Implementation:
- Participate
in the design and implementation of network infrastructure projects,
including LAN/WAN expansion, network upgrades, and migrations.
- Collaborate
with other teams to ensure seamless integration of new network solutions
with existing systems.
- Document
network configurations, diagrams, and procedures for future reference.
- Capacity
Planning and Optimization:
- Assess
network capacity and performance requirements and make recommendations
for upgrades or optimizations.
- Work
with vendors and service providers to procure necessary hardware,
software, and services.
- Implement
performance tuning and optimization strategies to improve network
efficiency and reliability.
- Continuous
Learning and Professional Development:
- Stay
updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to
networking.
- Pursue
relevant certifications and training opportunities to enhance skills and
knowledge.
- Share
knowledge and mentor junior team members to foster a culture of learning
and growth.
- Misc:
- Travel
to customer site – up to 50%.
- Overnight
Travel required at times – Less than 10%.
- Able
to lift 50lbs or more.
- Provide
your own transportation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s
degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or
equivalent experience).
- Minimum
of 2-4 years of experience in network engineering or a related role.
- In-depth
knowledge of networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP,
VLANs, routing, switching, etc.).
- Experience
with network hardware and software from vendors such as Aruba, Ruckus,
Cisco, Extreme, Palo Alto, etc.
- Strong
analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot
complex network issues.
- Solid
understanding of network security principles and best practices.
- Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate
effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Relevant
certifications such as Aruba Certified Professional – Campus Access, Aruba
Certified Professional – Switching, Ruckus Certified Wi-Fi Associate,
Ruckus Certified Network Implementer, Extreme Networks Certified
Specialist, CCNA, CCNP, Microsoft 365 Certification, CompTIA Network+, or
equivalent are a plus.
